Did you know that by 2050 we can end up with more plastic than fish in the ocean? 🐟🥤
Floating trash is just part of the problem. Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic less than 5mm. They've been found everywhere, including our food, drinking water and even inside human body! Its sources include fibers released during washing of synthetic clothes, plastic trash breaking down into smaller pieces, cosmetic products etc.
One way to reduce the impact is by minimizing production of synthetic clothing and opting for organic, sustainable textiles.
The age of Anthropocene is marked by our impact on Earth's ecosystem. Are we able to stop? Can we turn back and start all over? Can we undo the damage we've done before it's too late?
In "Rewind" I explore irresponsible overconsumption, overproduction and pollution and the need to reverse our process of slow self-destruction by marrying the concepts of progress and innovation with the idea of turning back to nature.
Tansforming "landscapes" in the video are the result of AI trying to interprete images of plastic trash piles as if they were landscapes, ominously predicting a possible future that can become reality if we don't act now.
The name is also partially inspired by a Leprous song.
The work was presented on Global Talents Digital by Russian Fashion Council powered by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia.
